Nettetaler on charity tour through India by handbike
Lobberich · Stefan Voormans has been paraplegic since a motorbike accident. But that doesn't stop the Lobberich native from taking on challenges. He recently travelled more than 500 kilometres on a hand bike in India to raise money for charity.

Three months in a coma, 71 operations and three years in specialist clinics – these were the consequences of Stefan Voormans' moped accident, which turned his life completely upside down. He was 17 at the time, and it was clear that he would remain wheelchair-bound. Now 53, he has upper arms like Schwarzenegger and a handshake like Klitschko – all hard-earned through hand biking. His tours through India made him a media star there.

When Mother Teresa visited Leuth
On 17 October 1982, Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa visited Somedi Nettetal e.V. in Leuth. In addition to visiting the home of the association's chairman, Dr Ramesh Modi, and the relief supplies warehouse, she also gave a speech at St Lambertus parish church in Leuth.

Aid organisation: Somedi board meets the Dalai Lama
Nettetal. Even the Dalai Lama took the opportunity to welcome Ramesh Modi (Leuth) and Stefan Voormans (Lobberich) from Somedi in India. The Nettetal-based aid organisation supported the ‘Mobility Camp for the Handicapped’ in Palitan, in the Indian state of Gujarat, from 23 December 2009 to 9 January 2010.

Somedi aims to fill gaps in existing aid programmes and has set itself the goal of procuring primarily medical equipment, medicines, staple foods and clothing and making them available to national aid organisations, church organisations and hospitals in the ‘Third World’.
